I’m a Bears fan-but I was just a little kid in the 80’s. I know that the Bears had artificial turn at Soldier Field for a while.

Does anyone know when and why they changed it to grass? I don’t mind, I like grass, but I keep hearing that grass causes a pretty bad field come winter time.

My earliest memory of the Bears is watching Walter Payton’s retirement game and I can’t remember if that was on grass or turf.
